Job hunting .. To booth or not to Booth that is the question...

You be amazed what alot of salons are asking for in booth rentals. 200 a week. Some are 150. Other's 90. It varies. The most extream I've heard is 200. Guess that one is for the stylist who has boocoo clients.

Some offer commission but booth renting seems to be the in thing these days. I'm seriously thinking of going with the 50/50 comission. I need a job and aplace to call home. It isn't about making money it's about making my dreams mypassions for nails to come true.

We're getting desperate. We may have to hold off doing business together so my partner and best friend can support her family. I hate the fact that we can't work together for now but it's not forever. It bothers her a great deal but I just wanted to be confident for her. So she'll do it. Hopefully she'll get the job. And for now I'll work from home save up the money to pay the booth rentals. And maybe get lucky.

So those of you newbie techies and stylist. Don't give up .. Do decide what you can afford and hpoefully the new place of employment will be happy to help you. If they do then you've found a good place to start. Mojo Pie is 165 but Tony is awesome he's wililng to go 50 / 50 for comission. I may just stop by and go a head and take the job. May be slow but i get to be with people who are in the zone. Wish me luck.

C-Curves

I was sitting here thinking about that article by NSI

Do you "pinch" your clients' nails? Find out the
damage that can be done to the nail w/ this short cut to C curves: http://twurl.nl/8dl7di
So I got to thinking .. ( Yes thinking alot lately) I never did like the idea of pinching, simply because it was messy for me and ruins my polish *laughs* But also it was forcing someones nails to go into a deeper shape thant hey already are. For example look at your nails. How much of a curve from side to side do you have. Is it Flat? Loosly flat C? A real C or what ever shape you're blessed or cursed with?

Now Imagine forcing your nail to go into a C shape if you have a flat nail. .. It's like forcing yourself to wear a girdle that gives you a sharp deep waist line.

But once again I got to thinking. Those C curve sticks. Now shaping the nail tip into a c curve is good letting it fan out to the natural nail shape. Instead of forcing the person's natural nail into going C on ya Why not give the illusion of it being a c shape via the tip not the body.

So when I start working on clients I'm going to make sure don't use my thumbs to squeeze their nails on the sides but use the curve sticks and focus on the tip not the body. I'm just going to worry about making sure that tip has a good arch , apex ... and curve. And most of all.

Make sure my clients are happy and content with no discomfort and displeasure ;)

Experimenting back in school...

I was fiddling around with my best friend's nails. She wanted a glitter like tip in a purple hue. But not perminant. So what we did was painted it on instead. That was a interesting way of doing it but messy as heck. I think as a nail technician using it with acrylic or gel would have been a better option. I am more than willing to go the extra lenth to change the color. Less mess and fuss. But still it did come out looking nice though ;)

Thrilled!

Well it's been a while since I've been motivated to write or do anything. Reason for this was mynerves. I was so worried about when I take my written exam tht I wasn't going to remember everything I learned in the past year. Well heh .. still waiting on the results of my test. But I emailed state board Ms. Y which I will call her and she said that "Can't tell you the results but I can say you don't have to retake the theory"

Oh ...

Yes yes I know I worried for nothing. Ya'll had more faith in me than I did myself.

Thank you ;) No words can describe how thankful I am to each of you who have stood with me and kept patting my back instilling confidence in my ability. Thank you God .. Thank you mom for giving me to God when I was born ;)

And thank you momma ... For always being my number one fan. And my best friend too ;) Who just happens to be my pesky pedicure client *grinz*

Ok now onward to nails! I'll be writing a blog / article about the different types of gels. And what I've observed about them. ... Now where's my camera and batteries.

Trip down Memory lane! Summer Ice Tea with a Koolaid Twist!

Do you ever get a moment where you're walking or doing something and suddenly this memory hits you. You can smell it. Taste it. Remember exactly what you loved bout it? Well it's been hitting me all week. Drove me crazy so I asked my best friend Russ if he remembered the Kool-aid drink that had tea in it. Strawberry Tea I think it was called. I was so addicted to it when I was a kid. And as a kid Sodas were my main cravings but I would give up a soda for my strawberry tea from Kool-aid.

So I set about the task of finding if they still made it. No luck. So we talked and he suggested I make it from scratch. Uh huh right I can see me going through several batches but I went a head and did it ... ten minutes later...

PERFECT! I found the right mix on first try! WOOT. Life is good *dances* So the results are:

Didn't have strawberry kool aid so I used Tropical. All you need is:

Boiling water ( 1 to 2 cups of boiling water for the tea)
2 small tea bags
1 quart of cold water and ice if you prefer long as it measures up to 2 quarts
Cup of Sugar

Basically all you do is follow the usual instructions with the koolaid. But instead you use two cups of boiling water for the tea. then add the koolaid packet. Then the sugar. That way you don't have to stir like crazy. You can either let it sit til it cools or if you're i n a hurry to try this like me. Get ice. Fill it up to the 1 quart line int he pitcher if not use two cups of ice then pour the hot concotion that soon shall bring back memories and stir. Once it melts just pour in cold water til it reaches up to the two quart line. Stir more. Stir ... grab a glass pour it in over ice if you like and take a sip. ... prepare to be utterly amazed.

Warning though. Don't use tropical punch if you have a parent in the house who hates the smell of it. *chortles* My mother came in and had her own trip down memory lane of drinking so much punch as a kid 50 years ago that it made her sick to this day.

Try this with ANY flavor specially if you can find peach! Yumz ENJOY!

Tattoo Styled Nail Art

Ok I finally posted this. Though I did the Mom one back in late Nov/early December when my mom was admitted to the hospital when they found out she had a stroke.

Kinda obvious Mom was on my mind *chuckles*

The other one I did at home after graduating from school ... actually I did half of it at school finished it up at home. This idea was inspired by the Nail Pro Magizine 's Special they did on Tattoo nail art very awesome definantly inspired me. The tool's I used are mainly acrylic paints for easy application and blending. then I added a acrylic top coat to protect the colors. Using tammy taylor's A plus UV coat helps with the coloring though when you do use this method. Make sure you seal the edges or else they're going to lift. Or use something that will adhere the paint to the nail when you add layers to it.

Nails by Ami <-- All I could think of LMAO

Well I figured I try getting myself to be motivated to doing nails again. Ever since my mother had surgery I've actually put my studies and my carreer on hold. You be amazed what people do for love. My mother is my hero my inspiration my best friend. So is Chantel my best friend who has been my inspiration too and my pain in the ass and my ultimate fan. They both are. What would I do without them?

So I gotta finish and study and get back on this wagon. Cause I'm going to show my passion and I'm going to make a beauty mark on this world.

One hand at a time ;)
